A 24‑year‑old hairstylist, Ikechukwu Damilola, also known as “Transformation King,” reached the 90‑hour milestone in his 120‑hour Guinness World Record (GWR) hairdressing marathon on Sunday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the attempt is taking place in the Oto‑Awori Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Ijanikin, Lagos, and is being monitored by GWR officials.
LCDA Chairman Mr. Kareem Abiodun, who is sponsoring the event, said the marathon underscores the importance of youth skills development.
He added that with 30 hours remaining, Damilola, who began the challenge on June 10, remains focused on completing it by Monday.
Damilola, a graduate of the Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) in Oto‑Ijanikin, said his passion for hairdressing started in 2006 and that he has taught the craft at several schools.
“I am driven by the belief that wealth and opportunity can also come from skills and talent,” he said. “Another source of my inspiration after God is the zeal to make people look good, for looking good is good business.”
NAN reports that the marathon drew visits from state officials, including Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende and Commissioner for Tertiary Education Mr. Tolani Sule, among others.
The event also attracted fans and continued to thrill people in the beauty industry.
