The Anambra State Government has confirmed that a 10‑year‑old boy, who was allegedly assaulted by his guardian in Awada, Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area, is now under protective care.

A viral video that circulated on social media showed the child with scalded skin and injuries all over his body, allegedly inflicted by his guardian—a woman—and her husband. No motive for the alleged maltreatment was disclosed. Another video online showed residents of Awada, Obosi, storming the woman’s home and confronting her and her husband for allegedly torturing the boy.

In a social‑media post, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Esther Chinyere Onyekesi, confirmed that the boy is now receiving treatment and is in protective custody. She added that her team and the Obosi community women’s leader had visited him.

“The offenders must face the law for this barbaric act. If you see something, please say something,” the commissioner said.

It remains unclear whether the woman accused of the assault has been handed over to law‑enforcement authorities.
