Engr. Kale Kawu, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) gubernatorial candidate for Kwara State, formally accepted the party’s mandate on Sunday, vowing not to betray the confidence placed in him as he prepares to contest the 2027 general elections.
After being declared the consensus candidate in Ilorin, Kawu said his selection represented a collective triumph for all aspirants in the race.
“Your sacrifices, consultations, maturity and commitment to the survival and unity of our great party brought us to this defining moment,” he said. “History will remember your patriotism, sportsmanship and loyalty to the PDP family.”
“I, Engr. Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu, accept this mandate with absolute humility and a full understanding of the enormous responsibility ahead,” he added. “I pledge before Almighty Allah and before the good people of Kwara State that I shall not betray the trust and confidence reposed in me. By the grace of God, I will dedicate myself fully to the service of our people and the progress of our dear state.”
Addressing supporters across Kwara, from Ilorin West to Moro, from Edu to Baruten, from Offa to Ifelodun, from Kaiama to Ekiti, from Asa to Patigi, Kawu declared that the PDP has heard their cries and is returning. “The PDP is coming back,” he said, emphasizing that the party’s return is aimed at purposeful leadership and people‑oriented governance.
He outlined a plan to restore hope, revive infrastructure, improve education, support farmers, empower youths and women, strengthen healthcare, create economic opportunities, and return Kwara to a path of security, growth, dignity and prosperity.
“The struggle ahead is greater than what we have passed through,” Kawu said. “Our people desire a government that listens, cares, and works for everyone, irrespective of political affiliation, religion or ethnicity.” He urged party leaders, elders, executives, aspirants, supporters and members at every ward and local government to unite and move forward as one family.
Senator Duro Faseyi, head of the party’s monitoring team, announced the primary results across the state’s 16 local government areas. Engr. Kale Kawu received 98,998 votes, defeating Ladi Hassan, who garnered 2,125 votes.
