Iran’s central military command has declared that the Strait of Hormuz will once again be closed, citing Israeli military actions in southern Lebanon as a breach of Tehran’s understanding with the United States.
The announcement was made on Saturday by the Khatam-al Anbiya Central Headquarters and was broadcast on state television.
In the statement, the command said that maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz had been suspended as an initial response to what it described as a violation of commitments by opposing forces.
“It is hereby announced that the Strait of Hormuz will be closed to vessel traffic. This first step is a response to the enemy’s breach of promise, and if the aggression continues, further steps will be planned and taken to compel compliance with its obligations,” the military command said.
The command also warned that additional measures could follow if hostilities persist, indicating that Tehran may increase its response depending on developments in the region.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical maritime routes for global oil shipments, and any disruption to traffic through the waterway is closely monitored by international markets and security analysts.
