The Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has screened a total of 107 aspirants who intend to contest the party’s primary election for the 27 State House of Assembly seats ahead of the upcoming general elections.

The announcement was made by Judith Inamoto, chairperson of the State Screening Committee (SSC), at the party’s secretariat on Okigwe Road in Owerri after the screening exercise was completed.

“I, together with other members of the committee, are here on a national assignment. We were sent here to screen the aspirants for the House of Assembly in the state,” Inamoto said.

She noted that committee members, together with the Appeals Committee, arrived in the state and began the screening process immediately.

Inamoto said the exercise took two days: 36 aspirants were screened on the first day and 71 on the second day.

The purpose of the screening, she explained, was to clear aspirants so they can participate in the party primary that will select 27 candidates for the general election.

When asked how many aspirants passed the screening and how many were rejected, the chairperson said the details would be included in the committee’s report.

She described the process as transparent and said the aspirants were satisfied because everything was conducted openly.

One aspirant, Prince Osinachi Amako, who is contesting the Owerri West State Constituency seat, called the exercise peaceful and said the APC is becoming stronger.

Amako added that, beyond the primary duty of law‑making, he has already prepared empowerment packages for his constituency, which would be launched if he becomes a House member.

He also pledged to extend an olive branch and include other aspirants if he ultimately wins the primary election.
