Atlético Madrid are reportedly open to offers for Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman, just months after signing him from Atalanta, according to Afrik‑Foot.

The Nigerian striker joined the Spanish club in February 2026 after Atlético agreed a €40 million deal, comprising €35 million in fixed payments and €5 million in add‑ons. His arrival followed a successful spell in Italy, where he became a modern‑day Atalanta legend and earned the African Footballer of the Year award.

Lookman was expected to bring pace, creativity and versatility to Diego Simeone’s attack. His ability to operate on either wing, as a second striker or through the middle made him an attractive option as Atlético pushed for success in La Liga and Europe.

Adapting to Simeone’s demanding tactical system has proven difficult. The manager places heavy emphasis on defensive discipline, pressing, positional awareness and relentless off‑the‑ball work.

While Lookman has continued to show flashes of his attacking quality, reports suggest he has not yet fully convinced the coaching staff in all aspects of the system. Despite those challenges, he recorded 13 goal contributions (nine goals and four assists) in 24 appearances across all competitions during the second half of last season.

Uncertainty about his club future also saw the 28‑year‑old miss Nigeria’s June international fixtures against Poland and Portugal as transfer discussions intensified behind the scenes.

Atlético Madrid have valued the Nigerian international between €50 million and €60 million, according to a Fichajes report. The figure would allow the Spanish club to realise a profit on the fee paid to Atalanta earlier this year.

Several clubs across Europe are closely monitoring developments. In England, Arsenal are believed to admire Lookman’s ability to play across the front line, with Mikel Arteta seeking additional attacking options. Liverpool remain long‑term admirers, viewing his pace and pressing qualities as a strong fit for their style of play. Manchester United are also watching the situation as they continue their search for dynamic attacking reinforcements.

Outside England, Turkish champions Galatasaray have made Lookman one of their priority targets. Reports indicate the club have enlisted fellow Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen to help persuade his international teammate to move to Istanbul. Galatasaray reportedly dream of pairing Osimhen and Lookman in a powerful Nigerian‑led attack.

The Turkish side, however, faces a significant challenge in matching Atlético’s valuation and must also compete with the financial strength and sporting appeal offered by Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United.

French giants Paris Saint‑Germain have also been linked with renewed interest, while Turkish rivals Fenerbahçe continue to monitor a player they nearly signed before Atlético stepped in to complete the transfer earlier this year.

Ademola Lookman previously played for Charlton Athletic, Everton, Leicester City, Fulham and RB Leipzig before his time in Italy.
