The House of Representatives Committee on Works, Transport and Aviation of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), chaired by Hon. Peter Eze, reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing oversight, transparency and equitable representation across government institutions after a strategic interactive session with the Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON) and the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT).

The high‑level meeting, held at the FCC headquarters in Abuja, was part of the committee’s ongoing efforts to strengthen compliance with the Federal Character Principle and advance the commission’s reform agenda.

The SURCON delegation was led by Surveyor‑General and Registrar Mr. Olugbemiro Kunle, while the NITT delegation was headed by Dr. Bayero Salih Farah.

The session provided a platform for policy‑driven discussions on institutional efficiency, equitable representation, administrative compliance and inter‑agency cooperation within Nigeria’s public service system.

Speaking at the session, Hon. Peter Eze emphasized that the committee remains dedicated to ensuring effective oversight of ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) under its jurisdiction.

He described the engagement as more than a routine exercise, noting it was a strategic platform to promote accountability, transparency, inclusiveness and adherence to the FCC’s constitutional mandate.

Eze highlighted the importance of sustained collaboration between the commission and regulatory bodies such as SURCON and NITT to foster national cohesion, administrative fairness and balanced representation in appointments, recruitment, staff development and resource distribution.

He added that strong institutional partnerships are essential for realizing the commission’s reform agenda and national integration objectives.

In separate remarks, leaders of SURCON and NITT praised the committee for creating a direct forum to address critical policy and operational matters.

Both organizations reaffirmed their commitment to professionalism, institutional accountability, regulatory excellence and compliance with government directives governing public service administration.

The discussions also explored ways to strengthen compliance mechanisms, improve communication channels and enhance synergy between the institutions to improve service delivery.

After the deliberations, committee members and the SURCON and NITT delegations paid a courtesy visit to the FCC Executive Chairman, Hon. Hulayat Ayo Omidiran.

During the visit, the committee praised the executive chairman for her visionary and purposeful leadership, which they said continues to reposition the commission toward greater efficiency, inclusiveness and administrative credibility.

They also reaffirmed their support for the ongoing reforms and institutional transformation initiatives being implemented under her leadership.

Committee members present at the session included Vice‑Chairman and Nasarawa State representative Hon. Halima Ahmadu Jabiru; Osun State representative Hon. Eludayo Eluyemi; Edo State representative Hon. Victor Sabor Edoror; Borno State representative Hon. Modu Mustapha; and Zamfara State representative Hon. Sani General Garba.
