A fire broke out on Tuesday, completely destroying the main library of Kano State Polytechnic on Yahaya Gusau Road in Kano. The blaze consumed valuable books, equipment and academic records.
The incident was reported in a statement by Malam Nazir Muhammad, chairman of the Kano State chapter of the National Library Staff Union, who called the loss a major setback for teaching, research and knowledge preservation at the institution.
The statement noted that the fire wiped out key educational materials and operational tools inside the library, raising alarm among polytechnic staff and students.
The union expressed condolences to library staff, the institution’s management and the students affected, emphasizing the library’s essential role in supporting academic work and research.
It also called on the government, educational authorities and philanthropists to assist in rebuilding and upgrading the facility.
This fire follows a series of similar incidents that have been recorded at the polytechnic in recent months.
At the time of this report, the cause of the fire had not been established.
