The family of the late Nollywood actor and comedian John Ikechukwu Okafor, better known as Mr Ibu, has spoken about the hardships they have endured since his passing.
During a recent visit by content creator King Mitchy, the family disclosed that Mr Ibu’s only daughter and two sons have withdrawn from school because of financial difficulties.
They also revealed that they have been living without electricity and running water for weeks, unable to pay the utility bills.
The children’s mother explained that life has become very challenging.
“We fetched water from the well because I have not paid the house rent; they even cut my light two months ago. No light, so we go out every night to find a place to charge our phones, and it’s not easy,” she said.
Mr Ibu’s daughter, while urging Nigerians to help, praised her mother for her dedication to the family.
“I want to thank God for my mom, and she tried everything she can to feed us, pay our school fees, and make us happy,” she said.
“So Nigerians, if you were in the industry with my dad, you’re seeing us now. Come and meet us,” she pleaded.
With tears in her eyes, the mother also revealed that the school had recently sent her a notice about the children’s outstanding fees.
In November 2023, Okafor underwent a leg amputation after an illness that required seven surgeries.
He died in Lagos on 2 March 2024 at the age of 62 after suffering a cardiac arrest.
