ADO‑EKITI — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to safeguard the rights of all political actors as the state gears up for the 2026 governorship election.

The appeal was made during a press briefing in Ado‑Ekiti, where PDP officials voiced concerns about the alleged treatment of some party members by security agencies.

Speaking at the briefing, the PDP’s deputy governorship candidate, Deji Ogunsakin, called on security agencies to conduct their duties with professionalism and impartiality.

He also urged political stakeholders to foster a peaceful and democratic environment in the run‑up to the election.

According to Ogunsakin, the party remains focused on its political activities and on engaging voters across the state.

He further appealed to the President, as Commander‑in‑Chief, to continue supporting democratic principles and to ensure that all citizens receive equal protection under the law, regardless of political affiliation.

South‑West Zonal Publicity Secretary Sanya Atofarati also spoke, emphasizing the need to protect democratic freedoms and to maintain a level playing field for all parties.

He urged relevant authorities to ensure that political activities are carried out in line with the law and democratic norms.

Meanwhile, PDP Chairman of Ikere Local Government Area, Sunday Ashana, requested clarification from authorities about the recent detention of some party members during a security operation.

Ashana called for due process and transparency in handling such matters.

In response to the concerns raised by the opposition, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Biodun Oyebanji, Yinka Oyebode, dismissed allegations that the state government was involved in the actions complained of by the PDP.

Oyebode said the Oyebanji administration remains committed to inclusive governance and respects the rights of opposition parties to operate freely within the democratic process.

He also stated that security agencies are continuing efforts to address security challenges in the state and that the government does not interfere with the operations of law enforcement agencies or judicial processes.

The exchange comes as political parties begin consultations and preparations ahead of the 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State.
