Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has stated that his side is fully ready to defend their Unity Cup title in Saturday’s final in London, no matter the challenges they may face, according to Completesports.com.

Nigeria and the Reggae Boyz earned their spots in the Unity Cup final after 2‑0 victories over Zimbabwe and India, respectively, in the semi‑finals.

The Super Eagles and the Reggae Boyz will meet for the third time in the history of the Unity Cup, an Afro‑Caribbean mini‑tournament that celebrates football, music and culture in the British capital.

Last Year’s Final

In the previous year’s final, Moses Simon gave Nigeria an early lead, but the Reggae Boyz answered almost immediately through Kaheim Dixon.

Early in the second half, Nigeria regained the lead at Brentford Stadium via Samuel Chukwueze, only for the Boyz to level again through Jon Russell.

The three‑time African champions converted all five of their penalty kicks, while Dwayne Atkinson missed one over goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali’s sticks.

New Look Eagles Topple Zimbabwe

Although Simon and Chukwueze are absent from this year’s tournament, Nigeria displayed quality with a largely new squad on Tuesday, outclassing Zimbabwe’s Warriors thanks to a brace from debutant Femi Azeez.

The following day, Kaheim Dixon scored the second goal for the Boyz against India, after Courtney Clarke had opened the scoring.

Chelle Ready For Final Battle

When asked whether his team is prepared to face another penalty shootout – having won last year’s tournament through that route and having experienced the lottery in the semi‑final and third‑place match at the last Africa Cup of Nations finals – Chelle replied:

“Penalties are part of the game, and they can decide who wins a match. Every time I go into a game, I have the mentality to win.”

“This is the culture I have put in these boys – the winning culture. I don’t know if Saturday’s game will end in penalties; what I know is that I have prepared my team to win.”

“These are very young players with a bright future and they are hungry for success at any level. So, on Saturday, we will see how the game is decided, but we surely have prepared to win and defend the Unity Cup.”
