Rupert Lowe, a British lawmaker, has issued a harsh criticism of outgoing Prime Minister Keir Starmer after the latter announced his resignation, calling his time in office a failure and alleging that he has harmed the nation’s future.
Starmer announced his resignation amid mounting pressure inside the ruling Labour Party, following months of political turbulence, weak election results, and growing demands from party members for new leadership.
He is expected to remain in office until Labour elects a new leader.
In response, Lowe – the MP for Great Yarmouth and head of the political movement Restore Britain – said Starmer’s resignation signalled the conclusion of a premiership he called deeply disappointing.
“Starmer resigns, he has been a truly disgraceful Prime Minister,” Lowe wrote in a post on X.
“I do not believe him to be a good man or a patriot. He has deliberately and rapidly accelerated the destruction of our Britain, of our home. History will not remember him kindly, nor should it.”
Lowe cited Starmer’s handling of requests for a national inquiry into the sexual exploitation of young girls as one of his major grievances.
According to Lowe, the issue remains unforgivable.
“I sat in Parliament, looking him in the eye, listening to him attempting to justify his decision to block a national inquiry into the mass rape of young British girls. I will never forgive him. For that, and so much else,” he stated.
These remarks are among the most forceful public responses from a sitting British politician since the resignation was announced.
Lowe also seized the moment to promote his platform, Restore Britain, positioning it as an alternative for voters who want a new direction for the country.
“What comes next, I do not know. Whatever that is, Restore Britain will be ready to offer the British people a democratic route out, a better way, the only way.”
He ended his statement by welcoming Starmer’s exit from office.
“But Starmer is gone. And that is a good thing. Enjoy it,” Lowe added.
Starmer’s resignation follows a period of mounting difficulties for the Labour government, such as internal divisions, cabinet reshuffles, and falling public confidence, and it sets the stage for a closely watched leadership contest that will decide Britain’s next prime minister.
