Suspected armed militia members attacked the Mbasa community in Utange Council Ward, Katsina‑Ala Local Government Area of Benue State, killing one person and setting several houses ablaze.

Military officials said that troops from Sector 1, working with the Benue State Civil Protection Guards, received a distress call at about 8:30 a.m. on June 4 reporting an assault on community residents.

Security forces moved to the scene immediately but found the attackers had already fled before they arrived.

An initial assessment after the incident confirmed one fatality and the destruction of multiple homes by fire.

Investigators also recovered two empty 7.62 mm special ammunition shells, indicating that firearms were used during the attack.

The victim’s remains were later taken by relatives for burial in accordance with local customs.

Military authorities said they were working to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

They added that security has been reinforced in the area to prevent further incidents and restore confidence among residents.
