David Beckham, the former Manchester United and England player, has become the first British sportsman to reach billionaire status, according to the 2026 Sunday Times Rich List.
The Rich List compilers estimated that Beckham and his wife Victoria together hold a fortune of £1.185 billion (US$1.583 billion) this year.
This places the couple in second place among the UK’s wealthiest athletes, only behind the family of former Formula One chief executive Bernie Ecclestone, whose wealth is valued at £2 billion.
After retiring in 2013, Beckham became a co‑owner of Inter Miami, a club that the league estimates is worth £1.07 billion, making it the most valuable in Major League Soccer.
At 51, he also serves as a brand ambassador for companies such as Adidas and Hugo Boss.
During his illustrious career with Manchester United, Beckham captained England and secured titles in the Premier League and Champions League, later playing for Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan and Paris Saint‑Germain.
