Deputy President of the Senate, Jibrin Barau, praised President Bola Tinubu for fostering unity and ensuring a peaceful conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries.

While speaking to journalists after returning to Abuja from Kano, where he had been selected as the consensus candidate for the Kano North Senatorial District, Barau said the outcome reflected Tinubu’s dedication to internal democracy and cohesion within the ruling party.

He added that adopting consensus arrangements in several states had eased tensions and reduced conflict among party members in the run‑up to the general election.

Barau credited Tinubu’s extensive political experience and deep understanding of grassroots politics for the growing stability within the APC, noting that the president has guided party leaders toward reconciliation and unity.

According to him, the consensus model is intended to create a conducive environment for candidate emergence and to prevent disputes that could weaken the party before the polls.

Barau stated, “The credit goes to Mr President, the Commander‑in‑Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and leader of the APC, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

“Consensus is based on the premise of encouraging party unity and creating a good atmosphere for the emergence of candidates so that by the time we go into the general elections, there will not be much problem.”

The deputy senate president also commended governors and other stakeholders in the APC for aligning with the president’s reconciliation efforts.

He singled out the Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Masari, for his role in promoting understanding and harmony among party members across the country.

Barau expressed confidence that the peaceful primaries would strengthen the APC ahead of next year’s elections and improve the party’s chances at the polls.

He added that the ongoing exercise would ultimately produce stronger unity within the ruling party and pave the way for better electoral outcomes nationwide.
