Arsenal are nearing a decision to appoint former Olympic sprinter Arnaldo Abrantes as the club’s new first‑team doctor following the dismissal of Zafar Iqbal.
According to the Telegraph, Abrantes is now the leading candidate for the position.
The 39‑year‑old recently departed his role as head of medical services at Aston Villa, which ended with the conclusion of the 2025/26 season.
He has also served as head of performance at Nottingham Forest in the past.
In other news, West Ham United announced that defender Axel Disasi will return to his parent club Chelsea after completing a six‑month loan spell at the London Stadium.
Disasi now looks forward to a fresh start at Chelsea under new manager Xabi Alonso.
The 27‑year‑old made 17 appearances in the Premier League and FA Cup, scoring in the sixth round against Leeds.
