Abdulrasheed Akogun, who is contesting the Share/Oke-Ode State Constituency seat in the Kwara State House of Assembly on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform, said that the increasing number of candidates seeking the party’s nomination for the 2027 general elections reflects Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s leadership and popularity in the state.
He made the remarks on Monday after taking part in the APC screening exercise for House of Assembly aspirants in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.
Akogun praised the members of the screening committee, describing the process as seamless, transparent and credible.
“The screening exercise went seamlessly and smoothly. It was, to a large extent, free, fair and credible, just like the entirety of the processes thus far,” he said.
He noted that the large number of aspirants contesting various positions under the APC banner demonstrates the confidence that many politicians and stakeholders have in the ruling party in Kwara State.
According to him, this development is directly linked to Governor AbdulRazaq’s performance and leadership style, which he said has repositioned the APC as the dominant political force in the state.
“That is a clear pointer to the worthy and purposeful leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who has, with his scintillating performance, endeared the party to the generality of Kwarans and made the platform attractive to all and sundry desirous of flying its flag,” he said.
Akogun disclosed that at least 158 candidates are competing for APC tickets across the 24 state constituencies in Kwara State ahead of the elections.
“Therefore, that accounts for the high number of House of Assembly aspirants, where we have 158 aspirants bidding to fly the flag of the party in the 24 state constituencies available,” he added.
Akogun, who was Director of Media and Publicity for Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s campaign organization during the 2019 governorship election, also expressed confidence in the APC’s prospects for the 2027 polls.
He claimed that the opposition in Kwara State has lost relevance, insisting that winning the APC ticket already provides aspirants with a major
