Zimbabwe coach optimistic about chances against Nigeria’s Super Eagles in Unity Cup

Zimbabwe head coach Kaitano Tembo is confident his side will deliver a strong performance against Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

The Warriors will face the Super Eagles in the Unity Cup semi‑final at the Valley on Tuesday, with the winner moving on to the final where either Jamaica or India await.

Zimbabwe and Nigeria have drawn in each of their last two encounters.

Tembo in a Buoyant Mood

Tembo expects another fiercely contested match.

“The most important thing is for us to approach each game as it comes, one game at a time,” Tembo said ahead of the match.

“I think this is a different game, a different scenario, a different situation as well. We need to try, and prepare well, and forget about the previous results.”

“We have to go out there and give our all to win, and not dwell on the previous results.”

“It’s a huge occasion for us, coming here, making our debut in the Unity Cup. We will try and make a statement. We want our fans to come out and support us. That will encourage the players to do well, and perform to the best of their ability.”

Preparations in Full Swing

The Warriors arrived in London on Sunday after spending three days in Birmingham.

Tembo said preparations have gone smoothly ahead of the clash with the Super Eagles.

“Well, I think preparation has been going on well, although we don’t have the full complement of all the invited players yet,” he added.

“The rest of the players are flying in today (Monday). I think because the tournament does not fall within the FIFA window, most of the players couldn’t come on time.”

“Nevertheless, I have been impressed with their attitude, the mentality that I have seen in our training sessions from the players we have in camp at the moment.”

“We are looking forward to the games. I think we can only promise to give our best, and play entertaining football. We urge our fans to come out and support us, hopefully we can make them proud.”
