The Zamfara State House of Assembly has decided to extend the suspension of seven legislators for an additional legislative session due to alleged misconduct and breaches of House rules.

The resolution was passed during a plenary session led by Speaker Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki.

Bello Madaro Kurya, the spokesperson for the Speaker’s office, stated that the suspended lawmakers remain under investigation for alleged violations of the House Standing Orders.

The motion to extend the suspensions was proposed by Majority Leader Bello Muhammad Mazawajje and seconded by Ibrahim Garba Liman.

Explaining the rationale, Mazawajje noted that the matter is still pending before the court.

He added, “While the initial suspension period had expired, the ongoing litigation regarding the issue requires a formal extension of the disciplinary action until a judicial decision is reached.”

After what the Assembly described as a unanimous vote, Speaker Moriki formally announced the continuation of the suspensions.

The lawmakers affected are Bashir Abubakar, Bashir Aliyu, Nasiru Abdullahi, Faruku Musa Dosara, Amiru Ahmad Keta, Ibrahim T. Tukur, and Bashir Bello.
