OWERRI — Youths from the Umuadara, Umulogho community in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State have detained a suspect connected to the murder of Wendy Achumba, a student at the College of Nursing, Obowo.
A community source said the operation was led by youth leader Chidiebere Iweajunwa after local youths conducted an investigation.
The suspect, identified as Onyema Okonkwo, was reportedly seized following a video interview that allegedly contained a confession and was shared online.
According to community sources, the suspect claimed that he and another individual named Emmanuel visited the student’s residence on the evening of the incident.
The victim was said to have been living alone at the time, as two other occupants of the apartment had temporarily left for their nursing practical programme.
“She was the only one in the house. Three students occupied the building, but the other two had travelled for their nursing experience,” the source said.
In the viral video, the suspect allegedly admitted that the victim was assaulted before she was later killed.
The suspect was subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation.
The spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, Henry Okoye, had not responded to enquiries as of the time of filing this report.
