Uyo—Political stakeholders in the Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika federal constituency of Akwa Ibom State have voiced concerns about the political ambitions of Marshall Ekpo, the son of Petroleum Resources (Gas) Minister Mr. Ekperikpe Ekpo.

Marshall Ekpo recently secured the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) nomination to run for the Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika federal constituency seat in the party’s primary.

Several local All Progressives Congress (APC) members who spoke to our correspondent yesterday criticized the minister’s son for seeking a nomination with a rival party.

They alleged that the minister had encouraged and supported his son’s candidacy, a move they say could harm the ruling party’s electoral prospects.

One stakeholder, who asked to remain unnamed, said, “The political climate in Abak Federal Constituency is tense because we believe Minister Ekperikpe Ekpo is engaging in anti‑party politics.”

While his son has the right to contest on any party platform, the stakeholder added that the father’s influence could deprive APC of a win in the area.

The stakeholder raised concerns about party loyalty, transparency, and commitment to APC’s principles.
