The Yobe State Security Council, represented by State Commissioner of Police Usman Kanfani Jibrin, has cautioned political actors against engaging in thuggery and brigandage as the 2027 general elections approach.

Jibrin delivered the warning during a briefing to journalists in Damaturu, following the Council’s meeting on Tuesday.

“Regarding the overall security of the state, we must issue a warning because two APC primaries have already taken place—those for the House of Representatives and the Senate—and they were conducted peacefully,” he said.

He added that Yobe is a frontline state, so any actions that could foster lawlessness would have serious repercussions. “Thuggery and brigandage will not be tolerated by anyone. Rules and regulations are in place, and if anyone feels they have been politically short‑changed, there are established means to address it,” the commissioner said.

Meanwhile, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (retd.), Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, urged residents to report suspicious individuals to security agencies amid ongoing military operations against insurgents.

He made the appeal at the media briefing on the Tuesday security meeting.

“If you’ve noticed, military aircraft have been flying across the entire state. That is to let you know that special military operations are ongoing. Displaced insurgents are infiltrating towns and villages after being displaced from their enclaves,” he said.

“We, therefore, urge the general public to be on the lookout for strange faces and new arrivals, and to report them to the relevant security agencies,” he added.
