The Commissioner of Police for Yobe State Command, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, has cautioned police operatives against engaging in unethical conduct such as extortion and corruption while performing their duties.
The warning was issued during an emergency meeting that brought together the Command’s Management Team, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and other senior officers at the State Command Headquarters in Damaturu.
A statement released today by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, noted that supervisory officers will be held responsible for any professional misconduct committed by personnel under their jurisdiction.
Jibrin instructed DPOs to assume full accountability for activities within their divisions, emphasizing the need for effective supervision, proper mentoring on weapon handling, adherence to human‑rights standards, civility and the promotion of community policing.
He also warned officers against intervening in civil matters that lie outside the constitutional mandate of the police and urged them to maintain professionalism at all times.
According to the statement, the commissioner tasked DPOs with stepping up raids on criminal hideouts, ensuring visible policing, and maintaining continuous patrols in their areas of responsibility, without prejudice to law‑abiding citizens.
The commissioner affirmed that the Inspector‑General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, remains steadfast in his commitment to personnel welfare, better working conditions, capacity building and professional policing standards, in line with the renewed hope policing agenda.
He called on officers to stay dedicated, disciplined and committed to fulfilling their constitutional duties.
Finally, the CP appealed to the public to keep cooperating with the police to preserve peace, security and safety throughout the state, reiterating the command’s unwavering dedication to protecting lives and property.
