The African Democratic Congress (ADC)in Yobe State rejected allegations that party members loyal to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar had formed an alliance with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
It called the allegation “false and misleading” and accused Professor Muhammad Jawa of trying to create division within the opposition party in the state.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Yobe State ADC Chairman Umar Alhaji said the publication attributed to Jawa does not reflect the stance of the party’s leadership.
The party also questioned Jawa’s political credibility and loyalty, noting that his past actions continue to raise concerns among members.
The statement added that Jawa’s appointment as Special Assistant to Governor Mai Mala Buni, while maintaining ties to the ADC, sparked suspicion among stakeholders about what the party termed “divided loyalty.”
The ADC further reported that stakeholders were dissatisfied with Jawa’s performance as chairman of the MMRR Committee, especially regarding the low membership registration numbers recorded statewide.
The party also accused him of close association with the “Obedient Movement,” which it says contributed to his loss at the party’s most recent state congress, where he ran for state chairman.
“The outcome of that congress reflected the collective will of party members who had lost confidence in his leadership ambitions,” the statement read.
The ADC affirmed that the party in Yobe remains united and dedicated to offering credible opposition and democratic leadership.
“At no time has the leadership aligned with the APC as falsely alleged,” the statement added.
The party called on the public and its supporters to ignore the publication, describing it as “false, malicious and intended to create division within the party.”
The response came after Professor Jawa’s remarks at a stakeholders’ meeting in Damaturu on Saturday, where he asserted that ADC members in all 17 local government areas of Yobe had decided to align with the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
Jawa, also the founder and national coordinator of the Arewa Strategic Implementation Group for Atiku, said the proposed realignment was intended to promote political stability and support President Bola Tinubu’s administration ahead of the next general elections.
