Former governor Yahaya Bello secured a decisive victory in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary for the Kogi Central Senatorial District, winning in every one of the district’s five local government areas.
The aggregated results from the five local government areas are as follows: Adavi – 18,341 votes; Ajaokuta – 10,298 votes; Ogori – 5,146 votes; Okehi – 8,943 votes; and Okene – 29,621 votes, giving a total of 72,399 votes for Bello.
Bello’s competitors received the following totals: Ibrahim Yakubu Adoke collected 67 votes in Adavi, 147 in Ajaokuta, 63 in Ogori, 25 in Okehi, and 13 in Okene, for a combined 319 votes; Momoh Yusuf Obaro received 14 votes in Adavi, 76 in Ajaokuta, 65 in Ogori, 25 in Okehi, and 8 in Okene, totaling 188 votes.
In the upcoming general election, Bello is expected to face Senator Natasha Akpoti‑Uduaghan, who is anticipated to win the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket on Wednesday, as she is the sole candidate in the party’s primary.
