Chinese President Xi Jinping cautioned U.S. President Donald Trump that any misstep concerning Taiwan could lead the two nations toward conflict.

Xi delivered the warning during their first meeting in Beijing at a superpower summit on Thursday.

According to DAILY POST, Trump arrived in China with praise for his host, describing Xi as a “great leader and friend” and expressing optimism about a bright future for both countries.

Despite the ceremonial welcome, Xi emphasized that the United States and China should be partners rather than rivals, and he highlighted Taiwan—a territory Beijing claims—as a central issue.

“The Taiwan question is the most important issue in China‑US relations. If mishandled, the two nations could collide or even come into conflict, pushing the entire China‑US relationship into a highly perilous situation,” Xi said.

Trump’s visit to Beijing marks the first trip by a U.S. president in almost a decade, even as a range of unresolved trade and geopolitical tensions remain between the two powers.
