Xenophobia: No Evacuated Nigerian Committed a Crime, Only Attacked Because of Skin Color – NIDCOM

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) confirmed that none of the 258 Nigerians evacuated from South Africa engaged in criminal activity.

During an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, NIDCOM Chairman Abike Dabiri‑Erewa stated that the only “crime” these individuals faced was discrimination based on their skin colour, describing them as black migrants in South Africa.

Dabiri‑Erewa praised President Bola Tinubu for facilitating the return of the evacuees. She added that MTN had provided each person with 100,000 naira and 50,000 naira worth of airtime upon arrival.

She concluded that the reintegration process has begun smoothly, citing the example of Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, who gave one million naira to each Imo native among the returnees. The commission urged other state governors to follow suit.
