Zoe, the mother of Manchester United defender Harry Maguire, has described the exclusion of her son from England’s World Cup squad by coach Thomas Tuchel as “disgraceful.”
The defender’s mother said she feels “absolutely disgusted” by the decision to omit the former Manchester United captain from the squad.
The 26‑man team, set to travel to the United States, Mexico, and Canada, was officially announced on Friday.
Before the squad was made public, Maguire revealed that he had been dropped by the England manager.
He posted on social media, “I was confident I could have played a significant role this summer for my country after the season I’ve had. I’ve been left shocked and devastated by the decision. I’ve cherished every moment of wearing that shirt and representing my country over the years. I wish the players all the best this summer.”
Zoe echoed these sentiments, posting on Z: “Absolutely disgusted.”
In response to her son’s message, she added: “You couldn’t have done any more. Hold your head high … Disgraceful.”
