Côte d’Ivoire star Amad Diallo maintains that the Elephants still control their World Cup fate, even after a 2‑1 loss to Germany, SABC Sport reports.
The African team pushed one of the tournament’s favourites to the limit before conceding a late winner, having entered the match confident after their opening win over Ecuador.
The defeat means they now need a favourable result against Curaçao in their final Group E match to keep their knockout‑stage hopes alive.
Speaking after the game, the Manchester United forward said beating Die Mannschaft would always be a tough challenge.

“It was a really difficult game for us, and we knew it was going to be hard because we were playing against a top‑quality team and they have players that can make a difference at any point, but we are going to learn from this and we can still go through to the next round,” Diallo said.
Côte d’Ivoire have never advanced past the group stage in the tournament, and Diallo suggested this fact has been part of their behind‑the‑scenes discussions.
This is the first time Germany has progressed from the group stage at a World Cup since becoming champions in 2014 in Brazil.
