PORT HARCOURT — A young woman known only as Eno was killed when she was struck by a vehicle traveling in a convoy on the Rivers State University campus in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The incident happened on Tuesday on one of the campus roads. It is not yet known whether the victim was a student at the university.
Sources say the convoy was allegedly driven by university students.
Eyewitnesses reported that some members of the convoy fled the scene as soon as the collision occurred.
A source revealed that university security and police were called immediately, leading to the closure of all campus exits to prevent the suspects from escaping.
Operatives from the Nkpolu Divisional Police Headquarters, led by Divisional Police Officer CSP Henry Ogbuefi, and the university’s internal security team arrested two suspects, Onunaka K. and Daniel Ikechi.
The suspects were reportedly driving a Toyota Camry Spider and a Mercedes‑Benz E300, respectively.
At the time of reporting, both suspects were being held at the Nkpolu Divisional Police Headquarters in Mile 3, Diobu, while the body of the deceased had been recovered and taken to a mortuary.
University spokesperson Victor Banigo confirmed that the institution was aware of the incident and said an official statement would be released later.
Rivers State Police Command spokesperson Blessing Agaba also confirmed the arrests.
“Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, while the corpse has been retrieved and deposited in the mortuary,” she said.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
