Widow of slain Oyo teacher seeks recovery of husband's remains

The wife of a teacher who was allegedly killed during the recent attacks on schools in Oyo State has requested that government and security agencies locate her husband's remains so he can be buried.

Mrs. Mary Oyedokun made the appeal after her husband, Mr. Michael Oyedokun, a teacher at Community High School in Ahoro-Esiele, was abducted along with several other teachers and students during coordinated attacks in Oriire Local Government Area.

The attacks reportedly targeted Community High School, L.A. Primary School in Esiele, and Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, with between 46 and 48 people—pupils and teachers—kidnapped by the assailants.

Public outrage erupted after a video that allegedly shows Mr. Oyedokun’s killing appeared online and spread widely on social media.

The incident drew condemnation from celebrities, civil society organisations and members of the public, many of whom called for stronger security measures and swift action against those responsible.

In another video posted on Friday, Mrs. Oyedokun, speaking emotionally in Yoruba, pleaded with the Federal Government to help retrieve her husband’s body so he could receive a proper burial.

“I am begging the government to please recover the body of my husband. I want him to have a burial site for future reference,” she said.

Meanwhile, security agencies have continued rescue operations aimed at securing the release of the remaining abducted victims.

Oyo State Governor has earlier assured residents that both kinetic and non‑kinetic strategies are being used to ensure the safe rescue of those still in captivity.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu also condemned the killing, describing the act as barbaric, and assured Nigerians that security operatives are intensifying efforts to rescue the captives and apprehend those behind the attack.
