Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has been linked with a move to Atlético Madrid in recent weeks, according to Afrik‑Foot.

He is being considered as a replacement for Argentine forward Julián Álvarez should the latter leave the club this summer.

Speculation began in May, but it has intensified over the last two days following Álvarez’s confirmation of his desire to leave Atleti for Barcelona.

Atlético Madrid have reiterated that they will only consider parting with Álvarez for a fee in the region of €500 million.

However, the club could soften its stance if it receives a bid in the range of €140–€150 million, a windfall that would give it the financial flexibility to pursue a high‑profile replacement.

Atlético Madrid to Re‑invest in Victor Osimhen?

Atlético Madrid have already rejected a €100 million bid for Julián Álvarez, but the club is expected to return with an improved offer soon.

Ultimately, it is likely that the Argentine will depart the Metropolitano, leaving the club in need of a top‑tier striker to lead the line.

Osimhen emerges as the ideal signing for Los Colchoneros, given his status as one of the most prolific marksmen in the world.

Although Galatasaray have expressed an unwillingness to sell the Super Eagles star, they would likely be swayed by a very high offer.

There are few ready‑made strikers in Europe capable of shouldering the goalscoring burden of a club like Atlético Madrid, and Osimhen stands out as a prime candidate.

As a result, breaking the bank to sign him—especially after capitalising on the sale of Álvarez—would be a logical move.

Victor Osimhen is a Better Fit for Atlético Madrid Than Julián Álvarez

Since coach Diego Simeone took charge of Atlético Madrid in 2011, he has built a team that attacks and defends as a cohesive unit.

Over the years, the club has relied on strikers capable of handling the heavy responsibility of leading the attack. While Álvarez has a respectable record of 49 goals and 17 assists in 106 appearances, his output is not necessarily prolific.

In contrast, Osimhen boasts a more impressive record at Galatasaray, having netted 59 goals in 74 games.

Beyond the numbers, Osimhen has the profile to fit seamlessly into the Atlético Madrid setup. Simeone is known as a fiery manager, and he would undoubtedly value a player with a similarly intense character on the pitch.

He also appreciates players who are willing to put in the extra effort in pressing and defensive work.

While Álvarez is more comfortable with the ball at his feet, is a superior dribbler, and has the tendency to drop into deeper positions, he lacks the physical presence that the Nigerian provides in the box. Also, Osimhen is significantly more dominant in aerial situations.

Taking these points into account, replacing Álvarez with Osimhen could be an upgrade rather than a loss for Atlético Madrid.
