Malawi captain, Tabitha Chawinga, has jokingly pleaded with the Super Falcons not to inflict a heavy defeat on her team when the two sides clash in their opening Group C game at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Rabat, Morocco.
The Super Falcons have been drawn alongside Malawi, Zambia and Egypt, and will begin their campaign against Malawi on July 28.
During a pre-tournament panel featuring several African women stars, which had Ghana’s Cynthia Konlan and Egypt’s Nadine Ghazi, Super Falcons forward, Asisat Oshoala, teased the Chawinga sisters over Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football, which prompted a light-hearted plea from the Malawi captain.
“Super Falcons need to calm down. Do not give us 5-0, please. 1-0 is enough,” Chawinga said, in an exchange that has since circulated widely on social media.
The Super Falcons clinched a record-extending 10th WAFCON title, having reclaimed the trophy in 2024 thanks to a dramatic 3-2 comeback win in the final against hosts Morocco.

Meanwhile, the friendly game between the Super Falcons and Black Queens of Ghana, originally planned for today (Saturday) in Casablanca, has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.
The Super Falcons had opened their training camp in Casablanca on Monday with players including captain Rasheedat Ajibade, Chiamaka Nnadozie and Fatima Oloko, Oluwatosin Demehin, Glory Ogbonna, Christy Ucheibe, Shukurat Oladipo, Rofiat Imuran, Jennifer Echegini, and Oshoala already in camp.
The 14th edition of WAFCON will run from July 26 to August 16, with the four semi-finalists qualifying automatically for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, and two more teams will advance to the inter-confederation play-offs.
