Super Falcons forward Chiwendu Ihezuo has reaffirmed the team’s determination to successfully defend their title at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations ( in Morocco.
Justine Madugu’s side will be chasing a record-extending 11th continental crown when the tournament gets underway later this month, with Morocco hosting the competition for the third successive edition.
Beyond lifting the trophy, the Super Falcons are also aiming to secure a place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will be hosted by Brazil.
Ihezuo Targets Another WAFCON Success
Ihezuo stressed that the team’s mission is clear: retain the WAFCON title and book their place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“This tournament will be tougher, much tougher. Last year, there was no FIFA Women’s World Cup ticket to fight for,” Ihezuo told thenff.com.
“When the first blast of the whistle goes on 26th July, the focus of all the teams will be on the World Cup ticket. As defending champions, we cannot afford to be over-confident.”
Injury Crisis Over
Addressing the injury that kept her sidelined for an extended period, Ihezuo, who plays for Mexican club Pachuca, confirmed that she has fully recovered and is ready to contribute to the Super Falcons’ campaign at the tournament.
“God has been great and I give Him all the glory. I am now healed and fully-recovered. Presently, my Club is in pre-season, but I am ready to fly to Morocco and team up with the Super Falcons of Africa to make Nigeria proud,” she added.
