Violence and Irregularities Mar APC Primaries in Bomadi, 2027

During the weekend, apprehension spread across Bomadi, the headquarters of Bomadi Local Government Area, as violence disrupted the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primaries held at the collation centre, citing irregularities in the electoral process.

Party members voiced concerns after the Returning Officer, Dr. Godwin Adolor, apologized for the delayed start and announced that Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) observers had already been sent to the wards.

He further said that returning officers were about to be deployed to the wards to begin the voting.

Hon. Keneke Godbless, former chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Bomadi, objected, noting that no one had been informed about the deployment of INEC observers and that their identities were unknown.

Hon. Rawlings Dagidi Andaye, chairman of the Bomadi Local Government Council, replied that he and the INEC Electoral Officer had agreed that the party’s ward chairmen would act as observers and report their findings to INEC from the ten wards.

Mr. Perekeme Seleyeibo, chairman of the APC in Bomadi, objected to the arrangement made between INEC and the council boss without his knowledge. He said that, as party chairman, he should have been informed and that the arrangement was unacceptable in a democratic system.

Nevertheless, no progress was made on the concerns raised, as the Returning Officer was unwilling to reverse the arrangement.

Following this, supporters began protesting, citing irregularities in the process, and chanted, “No voting in Bomadi. Nicholas Mutu is our preferred candidate; Mutu, we know.”

In a sudden escalation, youths brandished machetes, cutlasses and other weapons, creating chaos and forcing people to flee for safety.

At the time of reporting, party officials were seen returning to Asaba without completing the process.
