Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko has defended President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying the President is “not perfect” and should be given more time before Nigerians judge the outcome of his policies and reforms.
Speaking during an interview with FeelrightnewsTV, Kosoko argued that it was too early to pass judgment on the administration, comparing governance to a building project that should only be assessed after completion.
“If you are building a house, you cannot assess such a building and give it a pass mark until the building is completed,” he said.
The veteran actor acknowledged that Tinubu, like every other leader, is not infallible.
“Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not God. That means he cannot be perfect,” Kosoko said.
He also claimed that some opposition figures and activists were shaping public opinion against the administration, particularly among younger Nigerians.
“Let me tell you, what those opposing Tinubu are projecting for you to say is what you will be saying. What they have crafted that they want you to carry in your head is what you will carry,” he said.
Referring to the young generation, he added: “They know you, Gen Z. You are easy to manipulate and control. Once they control you, you will all go on overdrive.”
Kosoko further alleged that some activists criticising the government were not entirely independent.
“The so-called activists, we know how they take money from government but come out to influence citizens. But when we talk, they accuse us of taking money to support the government. As if we don’t have a mind of our own, as if we don’t have family members suffering or as if we are enjoying well,” he said.
Despite backing the Tinubu administration, the actor admitted that Nigerians are facing economic hardship. He, however, argued that distributing cash directly to citizens would not be a practical solution given the country’s large population, urging Nigerians to allow the government’s reforms more time to take effect.
