The final rites for the late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo began on Wednesday with a Service of Songs in Lagos State. The ceremony drew family, friends, colleagues and admirers from across the entertainment industry.

The emotional gathering was held at the Monarch Event Centre, where most guests wore white to honor the actor, who had died after a battle with metastatic kidney cancer.

Notable attendees included actress and producer Funke Akindele, TV personality Frank Edoho, and musician Chike.

Actor IK Ogbonna, a close friend of the deceased, was also present. He wore a white outfit and matching cap while coordinating the event and greeting guests as they arrived.

The venue was decorated with photographs of Ekubo, white floral arrangements, and elegant seating that underscored the solemnity of the occasion. Violinists performed soft, reflective tunes as attendees entered the hall.

Fashion designer Yomi Casual and his wife were among those in attendance. Other celebrities who attended the Service of Songs were Ini Edo, Stan Nze and his wife Blessing Obasi, Segun Arinze, Omoni Oboli, AY Makun, Yvonne Jegede, Nancy Isime, Ebuka Obi‑Uchendu, and reality‑TV star Bryann.

A group of women in matching Igbo‑inspired attire added a cultural element to the event, performing traditional songs and dances for the guests.

The Service of Songs marks the beginning of the final farewell activities for the late actor, whose death has continued to spark tributes and heartfelt reactions from colleagues, fans and members of the Nigerian film industry.
