Social media commentator Martins Vincent Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan, has publicly denied the allegations that he sponsored a religious narrative intended to inflame tensions between Christians and Muslims in Nigeria.
The controversy stems from a viral video in which a young man is seen being questioned and assaulted after reportedly entering a mosque to pray.
Responding to the claims, VDM stated: “In this video, it is said that the young man sitting on the ground walked into a mosque to pray and, because of his movements, he was suspected of something as he did not fit in. They took him outside the mosque for questioning, and because he was not speaking, they decided to beat him up.”
He continued: “While they were beating him, he confessed that he is a Christian sponsored by Deeper Life Bible Church, the Christian Association of Nigeria, and lastly myself, VeryDarkMan.”
“He said that he and others are heavily sponsored by VeryDarkMan to create unrest and push a narrative that Christians are being harmed by Muslims.”
VDM clarified: “I would like to state that these allegations are not true. I have never met the young man in my life, and I have never sponsored any religious propaganda or narrative.”
He added, “I will never do anything that will cause mayhem or lead to loss of lives.”
Finally, he offered a reward: “I am giving one million Naira to anyone who can provide useful information about the man in the video.”
