VDM denies link to alleged doctored audio, asks security agencies to investigate

Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan, has denied any involvement with a disputed audio clip that has been circulating online. The activist claims the clip is doctored and incorrectly attributed to him.

Deji Adeyanju & Partners, the legal firm representing Otse, issued a statement criticizing remarks allegedly made by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, regarding the audio.

The statement notes that a simple check of VeryDarkMan’s verified social media accounts would show that he neither produced nor shared the audio in question.

“It is surprising that, despite the resources available to the Presidency, adverse comments were made concerning our client without proper verification of the facts,” the statement read.

The lawyers argue that the incident underscores the activist’s long‑standing concerns about attempts by influential government figures to tarnish and silence him because of his outspoken advocacy on public‑interest issues.

According to the statement, the audio’s circulation is part of a broader effort to damage the activist’s public image.

The legal team has called on relevant security agencies to investigate the origin and spread of the alleged doctored audio and to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

“We accordingly call on the relevant security agencies to investigate the source and circulation of the doctored audio and ensure that those responsible are identified and dealt with in accordance with the law,” the statement added.
