Uzodimma Wins APC Nomination for Imo West Senatorial Seat, Defeating Okorocha

Gov. Hope Uzodimma of Imo emerged as the APC candidate for the Imo West senatorial district after securing 230,464 votes in the party primary held across 12 local government areas.

Retired Rear Admiral Williams Kayoda, Chairman and Returning Officer of the 2026 Imo APC National Assembly Primary Election Committee, announced the result at the headquarters of Orlu Local Government Area.

Kayoda noted that Uzodimma defeated former governor and senator Rochas Okorocha, who received 1,098 votes in the primary. He declared, “I hereby formally declare that His Excellency, Sen. Hope Uzodimma, has satisfied all the requirements of the party constitution, the guidelines, and the relevant laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

“Having scored the highest number of valid votes of 230,464, he is hereby declared the winner of the APC Imo West Senatorial District Primary election,” Kayoda added.

Kayoda also announced Sen. Patrick Ndubueze as the winner of the Imo North Senatorial District primary, polling 108,862 votes to defeat Sen. Ifeanyi Ararume, who scored 79 votes.

Earlier, Uzodimma expressed confidence in the APC’s prospects for the 2027 general elections, describing the primary as “peaceful, transparent and widely accepted by party members across the state.” He added, “You can see how committed the party members are and the loyalty they have shown since we started this primary.” He further said the APC has continued to strengthen its presence, especially at the grassroots, and that the party’s establishment in Imo is now solid.

Oru East Local Government Chairman Ikenna Adikibe praised party members for their “maturity, discipline and orderly conduct throughout the exercise.” He said the process was free of violence, destruction, or electoral crisis, stating, “The exercise was peaceful. People conducted themselves appropriately and we thank God that there was no ugly incident reported anywhere. Overall, it was a successful outing.”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a total of nine aspirants purchased nomination forms for the Senate primaries across the three senatorial zones of the state. (NAN)
