US unveils 250,000 limited-edition passports for 250th independence anniversary

United States Department of State has announced the issuance of 250,000 limited-edition commemorative passports as part of activities to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary.

In a statement i Thursday unveiling the initiative, the department described the American passport as more than a travel document, saying it represents a symbol of national identity and a reminder of the bond shared by citizens wherever they are in the world.

“An American passport is more than just a travel document; it’s a physical piece of our national identity, a reminder that wherever you are in the world, you are an American,” the statement read.

The department said the special-edition passports were introduced in response to overwhelming public demand.

“The State Department is making 250K historic passports available to celebrate our nation’s 250th anniversary and our incredible history and heritage,” it added.

The commemorative passports are among a series of initiatives planned ahead of the United States’ 250th anniversary celebrations, scheduled to take place in 2026.
