On Wednesday, the U.S. Senate voted against a resolution aimed at limiting President Donald Trump’s conduct of the Iran war, marking a reversal after pressure from Republican leadership.

This decision followed only a day after the Senate had passed a 50‑48 resolution urging an end to the Iran war, a rebuke to the White House as it works toward a durable agreement with Tehran.

The measure is largely symbolic and unlikely to restrain executive power, given that Trump retains the authority to veto.

Trump denounced the Tuesday vote as “poorly timed and meaningless,” asserting that it complicated his responsibilities.

During a closed‑door lunch on Capitol Hill, the president criticized Republican lawmakers, according to U.S. media reports.

Later that day, Republican Senators Rand Paul and Bill Cassidy, who had previously urged a check on the president’s Iran policy, shifted their position in the late Wednesday vote to side with Trump, CNN reported.

The Wednesday resolution, defeated 50‑47, did not alter or invalidate the result of Tuesday’s vote.

Trump expressed a more favorable view of the Wednesday outcome, posting on Truth Social: “This vote puts Iran on notice!”

Senator John Kennedy told the New York Times that during the Wednesday lunch with Republicans, Trump “was mad as a murder hornet.”

Other participants informed the newspaper that Trump voiced numerous grievances and complaints.
