The United States Department of State has announced the activation of a comprehensive response plan following the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, DRC, and Uganda.
The development was disclosed in a statement posted on the official account of the U.S Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs.
According to the statement, the Department of State activated the emergency response plan within 48 hours and mobilised an initial 13 million dollars in foreign assistance to support immediate response efforts.
The statement added that the U.S government is also leveraging previous investments in humanitarian support channels coordinated through the United Nations system to facilitate rapid deployment of additional assistance in the affected countries.
It further noted that the intervention is aimed at strengthening response coordination and humanitarian support in the affected countries.
“American leadership remains indispensable in confronting global health threats,” the statement read.
