Security vetting mandatory for all travellers – US Mission

By Favour Ulebor, Abuja

The United States mission in Nigeria has reiterated that every prospective traveler to the United States must undergo extensive security screening before entry is granted.

In a statement posted on its official X page on Monday, the Mission explained that the screening process involves several government agencies and is designed to protect U.S. national security.

According to the mission, “Every prospective traveler to the United States undergoes extensive interagency security vetting.”

“Prohibiting entry to the United States by those who might pose a threat to U.S. national security is key to protecting U.S. citizens at home,” the statement added.

The message was shared under the campaign hashtag #VisaWiseTravelSmart, a tag the U.S. Mission uses to disseminate information on visa procedures, travel requirements and immigration policies.

This latest communication follows ongoing U.S. emphasis on rigorous security checks and adherence to immigration rules for individuals wishing to travel to the country.

The mission did not announce any new visa restrictions or policy changes but underscored the importance of security vetting as part of the travel approval process.
