US military strikes additional ISIS targets in Nigeria

The U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), working together with the Nigerian government, conducted additional kinetic strikes on ISIS targets in northeastern Nigeria.

AFRICOM announced the operation on Monday, stating that no U.S. or Nigerian personnel were injured and that intelligence confirmed the targets were ISIS militants.

The command added that full assessments are still underway, emphasizing that removing the terrorists reduces the group’s ability to plan attacks that threaten the safety and security of the U.S. and its partners.

AFRICOM reiterated its commitment to using specialized U.S. capabilities to support partners in defeating shared security threats.

This follows President Donald Trump’s announcement that U.S. forces, in cooperation with the Nigerian Armed Forces, carried out a joint operation that killed Abu‑Bilal al‑Minuki, the second‑in‑command of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) worldwide.
