The United States military has launched a new round of strikes targeting Iranian military positions in the Strait of Hormuz, escalating tensions in one of the world’s most strategically important waterways.

In a statement posted on social media, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the operation was carried out under the authorization of President Donald Trump, describing the strikes as part of efforts to weaken Iran’s capacity to threaten international maritime traffic.

“At the direction of the Commander in Chief, US Central Command forces have started conducting additional strikes against Iran to further degrade their ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz,” CENTCOM stated.

The command accused Iran of carrying out “unjustified aggression” against commercial vessels and civilian crews transiting the vital shipping corridor, adding that the military action was intended to hold Tehran accountable for those attacks.

“The United States is holding Iran accountable for recent unjustified aggression against commercial shipping and civilian crews freely navigating a vital international waterway,” the statement added.
