Zimbabwe head coach Kaitano Tembo has urged his players to give their best performance when they face Nigeria’s Super Eagles in the Unity Cup opener on Tuesday, according to Afrik‑Foot.

The Warriors and the Super Eagles will clash at The Valley, with a ticket to the tournament’s final on the line.

In terms of footballing pedigree and stature, the fixture appears heavily lopsided on paper.

The Super Eagles remain one of the traditional heavyweights of the African continent, while Zimbabwe have often been tagged as perennial underachievers.

However, the Warriors will fancy their chances of pulling off an upset, having already played the role of party‑poopers for Nigeria during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Zimbabwe held the Super Eagles to draws in both legs of those qualifiers—results that ultimately proved disastrous to Nigeria’s hopes of securing a World Cup ticket.

Ahead of the highly anticipated clash at The Valley, Kaitano Tembo has been talking tough.

Speaking in a pre‑match interview, the tactician emphasized that the game represents a massive occasion for his team and noted that they are eager to lay down a marker with a victory.

“Well, I think it’s a huge occasion for us coming here, making our debut in terms of playing in the Unity Cup,” Tembo said.

“I think we should always try and make a statement. I think we will have more fans as well coming to support us, and that should spur the players and encourage them to do well and perform to the best of their abilities. And we’ve got a few players as well who are based here.”

“I think it should be much easier for them to adapt to the conditions for them to play well.”

The winner of this encounter will advance to the final to face either India or Jamaica on Wednesday.
