The management of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has announced that its Ofatedo College of Law has been closed following the death of a 400‑level Criminology and Security Studies student, Miss Grace Osunlakin.

Ademola Adesoji, the university’s Public Relations Officer, issued a statement on Thursday. He did not disclose the cause of the student’s death but said that the circumstances surrounding it prompted the campus shutdown.

Adesoji described the loss as “deeply painful” for the university and expressed sympathy for the student’s family, who reportedly lost her on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.

The statement explained that the decision to close the campus indefinitely was made after careful consideration of the incident’s context, allowing emotions to subside among students and providing time for a thorough review of healthcare facilities, medical staff, and water supply systems at the Ifetedo Campus.

“This measure is part of broader efforts to address longstanding challenges associated with the campus and to ensure the safety, welfare, and well‑being of all students and staff,” the statement read.

“We reassure the public that we remain committed to conducting a comprehensive review of the situation and implementing the necessary measures to prevent a recurrence,” it added.

“May Almighty God grant the family of the deceased, the students, and the entire University community the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” the statement concluded.

The university urged students, parents, and stakeholders to remain calm and cooperative as efforts intensify to resolve the issues and restore normalcy.
