UK‑based Nigerian to testify online as court delays visa fraud case to June 24

A Federal Capital Territory High Court session in Jabi, Abuja, has postponed the hearing of an alleged visa fraud case until June 24, 2026.

The case was originally scheduled for May 7, 2026, but could not proceed because the presiding judge, Justice Olumuyiwa Oyeyipo, was absent while attending an official conference.

On the rescheduled date, Mr. Emmanuel Opeyemi Makinde, a Nigerian resident in the United Kingdom, is expected to give a virtual testimony before the court.

Through his lawyer, Muhydeen Adeoye Esq. of Adeoye Galadima & Associates, Makinde filed a formal petition on April 23, 2026 with the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja. The petition requests an investigation into the alleged use of Makinde’s identity and personal information in connection with Miss Dolapo Afusat Yusuf during a visa application process.

According to the petition, Makinde had hired a travel consultant in 2023 to process his United Kingdom student visa application. He alleges that false statements were later made linking him to Miss Dolapo Afusat Yusuf as a spouse or dependant without his knowledge, authority, or consent.

The petition further claims that these false representations have adversely affected Makinde’s immigration status and asks the Nigeria Police to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged statements and related documents used in the visa application.
