UCL: Marquinhos shares text from Arsenal’s Gabriel after PSG’s final win

Paris Saint‑Germain captain Marquinhos disclosed a text message he received from Arsenal’s Gabriel following the Champions League final last month.

In that final, PSG defeated Arsenal to claim the Champions League title after a penalty shoot‑out.

Gabriel missed his penalty, and Marquinhos offered him comfort on the pitch in Budapest after the final whistle.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of Brazil’s international friendly with Egypt on Saturday, Marquinhos also shared what he had said to his fellow countryman.

The PSG centre‑back said, “A day later, I received a message from him thanking me for that moment, for the support, for the hug, and for the words I’d shared with him.”

“I told him that, in my opinion, he was the best centre‑back in the world this season. He simply didn’t deserve to carry that burden because, of course, we all want to score penalties.”

“I told him that nothing about that moment would take away from the wonderful season he’d had and that we were going to need him very much. Those were my words to him.”
